LETTERS

24 August 1943  ב"ה

Dear Zwi, עמ"ש

It is a long time since Iwrote to you last – I have been putting it off from one day to the next, but now at last I have sat down to write. Although I have not written, I have always been thinking of you, and reading your very welcome letters. I was glad to hear that you are studying for your matriculation, and I wish you the best of luck for the exam.

At the moment I am on holiday from school. I think that I have told you before that I go to a secondary school for girls. It is a very nice school, with accomodations for many kinds of sports. We have a swimming pool and tennis courts, and a few fields for hockey and netball – (the latter two games are played a lot in England and especially in schools). As you see we do a lot of sports in school – but I do not want you to think that this is all we do. We have some very good teachers, and on the whole we get along quite well. I have private Hebrew lessons twice a week. I learn Chumash with Rashi’s comentary, and Shulchan Aruch.

For my holiday I went to Cambridge for a week. I am sure that you have heard for Cambridge the very famous university town of England. I stayed there for one week, and had a good look at the different colledges. I am going to stay with Sara this week – and in London. Our little niece is ideed very sweet, I am looking forward to seeing her, very much. I wish you could see her – I’ll try to send you a photograph of her. And by the way could you possibly send me a photo of yourself? I have nearly forgotten what you look like.

How is all the family ? I hope that they are keeping well. Feigi has already told you about the terrible misfortune that has happened here last year, so there is no need for me to say anything further. We are all keeping well thank g’d, and waiting patiently for this terrible war to end. I hope it will soon. We here have heard nothing from our dear mother have you? I hope that she is well, wherever she is.

Well, seeing that I am near the end of the sheet I must come to the conclusion of this letter. I hope that you will not have to wait so long for your next letter –

I am always thinking of you,

Ester

PS Please excuse the mistakes but I am just trying to teach myself to typewrite.
